Family Sailing Holidays in Spain

A family yacht charter in Spain offers a relaxed and enjoyable way to explore the Mediterranean together, combining warm weather, short sailing distances, and islands that are particularly well suited to travelling with children. Spain has long been a favourite destination for family holidays, and experiencing it by yacht allows families to slow down and enjoy the coast at a comfortable, flexible pace.

Spain works especially well for families new to sailing. Conditions are generally predictable, sailing days can be kept short, and there is a strong balance between time on the water and time ashore. The Balearic Islands, in particular, provide an ideal environment for family sailing holidays, with sheltered anchorages, clear water for swimming, and welcoming harbours. The picture above was taken by me on one of our recent trips to Mallorca and is from Palmanova beach and as you can see the bay is littered with yachts already, and this was early season, so do book early to get the yacht that you want and the destination you want.

Why Spain Is a Great Choice for a Family Sailing Holiday

Spain appeals to families because it offers simplicity without sacrificing variety. Sailing distances between islands and anchorages are manageable, allowing days to be shaped around swimming, relaxing, and exploring rather than long hours under sail.

For children, the appeal is immediate: warm, clear water, frequent swimming stops, and the freedom to move between the sea and the yacht throughout the day. For parents, Spain offers reassurance — good marina facilities, safe anchorages, and an informal atmosphere that makes life on board feel easy and sociable.

The Balearic Islands also offer excellent infrastructure, meaning families can enjoy the feeling of being away while still having access to supplies, medical facilities, and well-run marinas when needed. With a choice of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera there are some amazing places and secluded beaches where you can drop anchor and spend the evening on shore.

From Your Front Door to Your Yacht in Spain

Travelling to a family sailing holiday in Spain is straightforward from the UK. Most families fly into Palma de Mallorca or Ibiza, both of which are well connected and close to major marinas.

Transfers from the airport to the marina are usually short and simple. Boarding typically takes place in the afternoon, giving everyone time to settle into the yacht, unpack, and meet the skipper in a relaxed setting. Many families enjoy a calm first evening in the marina or nearby anchorage before beginning their sailing route the following day.
